Ministry warns of possible heavy rain over next day or two

The Ministry of Agriculture this afternoon said that satellite imagery and the United States National Hurricane Centre have identified an area of disturbed weather which could lead to heavy rain here over the next day or two.

A release from the ministry said that the disturbance is associated with a tropical wave about 550 miles east-southeast of the southern Windward Islands (north-north west of French Guiana). “Although development of this system is not expected, locally heavy rains are possible over northern South America and the southern Windward Islands during the next day or two. There is a low chance (10 percent) of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours”, the ministry said.

The release said that the Hydrometeorological Service, Ministry of Agriculture is closely monitoring the system and will provide the necessary updates and advisories should these become necessary over the next 36 to 48 hours.
