Police treating death of Kingston manager as suspicious

A 42-year-old city resident died on Sunday after he allegedly fell off a pick-up he was travelling in along the Yarrowkabra Trail, Soesdyke/Linden Highway but the police are treating his death as suspicious.

Dead is Ivan Backreddy of Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown who police described as a manager. Police said yesterday that a post-mortem examination performed by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, gave the cause of death as “being injuries to the head and broken ribs that are not consistent with a fall from the vehicle”.

His family declined to comment yesterday.

Police said in a press release yesterday that at about 1730 hours Backreddy was alleged to have fallen from a motor pick-up while travelling along the Yarrowkabra Trail, in the company of two other men.

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations are in progress, the release added.

It is unclear if police have detained anyone for questioning.
