Accused in stabbing of Leonora woman for court

The man who allegedly stabbed his wife after an argument on July 7 is to appear in the Leonora Magistrates’ Court today and his wife remains a patient at the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Reports reaching this newspaper are that on the day of the incident, Salim Baseer, a taxi driver operating in the city, went to Malini Baseer’s 131 Fourth Street, Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara home, around 6:30 am to take their children to school as usual. Sources said that screams were heard from the children and after a crowd had gathered to enquire, it was revealed that the woman had been severely injured.

A friend of the woman, speaking with Stabroek News, yesterday stated that the woman suffered two stab wounds to her chest, a deep cut stretching from below her chest to her navel and a chop to her hand.

He added that the mother of three is improving and was yesterday morning taken off the life support machine but explained that she is still experiencing a great deal of pain and as a result, doctors are giving her a lot of medication which is helping her to sleep. The couple’s three children are said to be staying with the woman’s relatives.
