Plaisance fire victim succunbs

Natasha Johnson, who was severely burnt when her Plaisance home went up in flames on July 4, succumbed to her injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) yesterday morning.

Ingrid Delph, the 22-year-old woman’s mother, told Stabroek News that she received the news of her daughter’s death around 6:30 am.

The distraught mother is calling on police toconduct a thorough investigation into the matter since there are high suspicions that the fire was not an accident.

According to Delph, she was told that 19-year-old Delon Gordon, Jordan’s spouse, who was also burnt in the fire, is under arrest.

Delph described her daughter as a loving individual and a good mother to her three children.

The couple’s baby, who was reportedly being monitored at the GPH, is still hospitalized while Johnson’s one-year-old daughter and four-year-old son are said to be in their biological father’s care.

Reports reaching this newspaper are that the two were involved in an argument and a fire subsequently erupted.

Meanwhile, Gordon had previously explained that the fire was caused by a dysfunctional stove which exploded.
