$113M acute care psych hospital to be added to Fort Canje facility

Cabinet has given its no-objection to $112.7M contract for the construction of an acute care psychiatric hospital at the National Psychiatric Hospital compound at Fort Canje, Berbice, Region Six, Dr Roger Luncheon said on Monday.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Luncheon also announced the Cabinet’s no-objection to contracts in the agriculture, education, housing and water sectors, given at its last statutory meeting held on Friday.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, a $100M contract was cleared for the supply and delivery of equipment for health centres in four lots (for maternal and ante-natal care).

In the agriculture sector, a contract valued $31.5M was cleared for the rehabilitation of drainage structures at Mara, East Bank Berbice, Region Six. In the education sector, a contract valued $39.06M was cleared for the construction of La Bonne Intention Primary School in Region Four.

GINA said too in the housing and water sector a $34.4M contract was green-lit for the supply and installation of water distribution mains in Foulis Housing Scheme in Region Four.

Also, in the security sector, a contract valued £41,000 was cleared for the procurement of fire fighting equipment for the Guyana Defence Force flagship vessel, the GDFS Essequibo.
