Masakenari receives $2M grant from gov’t

Region Nine REO Ronald Harsawack recently presented a cheque valued $2,000,000 to Toshao of Masakenari Village, Paul Chekema to upgrade the village’s water distribution system.

According to a press release from the Region Nine office, government had committed to proving the funds for the project at the National Toshaos Conference held late last year. Masakenari, a Wai Wai community is the most remote village in Guyana and is located in the deep south of the Rupununi.

The release said that the money will be used to upgrade the existing water distribution system in the village. It had previously received a tractor and trailer and an ATV.
