(Jamaica Observer) Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry is hoping that the launch of a regional all-cargo airline will enhance business opportunities for Jamaica. Henry, speaking at the launch of Exec Direct Aviation (EDA) at the Norman Manley International Airport last week Wednesday, said that the airline will act as “a stimulus for small business traders” and even traders of larger entities “because it gives them an opportunity to get their goods to the market place”.
“It should benefitJamaicain every way,” Henry said.
Last month the airline began services betweenJamaicaand Curacao as well as on-demand charters to the Caribbean andLatin America, having received its certification from the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority.
The company has a Saab 340A cargo aircraft, which has the capability to transport 8,000 pounds of cargo for approximately 600 miles.
At the launch, chief operating officer Kamal Clarke said that the company will also make the aircraft, “with complete Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) , available to other airlines within the region on a short to medium-term basis to facilitate temporary changes in their capacity requirements”.
In addition, the services include the delivery of special documents and small packages. And, Clarke explained that the company intends to spread its wings to the Cayman Islands,United States,BahamasandHaiti.
