Two killed, three critical in Couva crash

(Trinidad Guardian) A D’Abadie family is in mourning, after an early morning accident yesterday in Couva claimed the lives of two cousins and has left three passengers in critical condition at hospital. At around 2.30 am, Illyich Beddoe, 23, of Tamarix Drive, La Florissante, D’Abadie, was killed when he lost control of his red Toyota Tercel and crashed into a Toyota Corolla on the Old Southern Main Road in the vicinity of Calcutta No 1, McBean, Couva. Beddoe’s cousin Diego Beddoe, of Couva, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was also killed on impact.

Another cousin Antonio Beddoe and a childhood friend Sean Samaroo, 23, were seriously injured and were taken to San Fernando General Hospital where they remain warded in critical condition. The group was returning home from a lime in South Trinidad at the time of the accident. Police and fire officers who responded took almost an hour to free the men from the mangled car which had overturned several times after the collision. The driver of the Corolla, Karlon Francois, of Bonne Aventure, Gasparillo, whose both legs were broken in the crash, also remains warded. Francois also suffered facial and internal injuries.

Illyich’s relatives declined to speak with the media when the Guardian visited the family’s home and asked for privacy to grieve the loss of their loved ones. Acting Sgt Balkaran of the Couva Police Station is continuing investigations.
