REDjet’s Guyana-Trinidad flights to take off soon

Flights between Guyana and Trinidad on new low cost carrier REDjet will be available soon, says Chief Executive Officer Ian Burns.

Burns made this announcement on Wednesday at a luncheon hosted by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), where he was a guest speaker.

A GCCI press release said Burns was unable to give a definitive date for the start of the airline’s flights between the two countries, and he is quoted as saying that “the hold up in signing the paperwork by the Trinidad Director of Civil Aviation Authority is because of the CAL 523 crash landing.” He stated that he is optimistic that as soon as the investigation into the crash landing ends, REDjet will be given their go ahead.

Giving an outline of the airline’s performance, Burns stated that since the commencement of flights between Georgetown and Bridgetown, a 78% load factor was sustained. In addition, within only two months, REDjet recorded a 70% market growth. Based on competition quotes via the internet, the airline has also seen a 72% reduction in the cost of airfares this summer, when compared to last year.

It is no surprise then that 98.5% of REDjet’s passengers stated, in a market research conducted by the airline, that they would recommend the use of the airline to family and friends, Burns also said.

President of the GCCI, Komal Ramnauth complimented REDjet at the function.”We are happy to welcome REDjet into our space, not only here in Guyana but within the Caribbean Community and we are particularly heartened with the decision of the Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaican governments to grant landing rights to REDjet,” he said. He opined that because of REDjet, travelling within the Caribbean region is more affordable.
