A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) officer who was pursuing a military course in the US was on Thursday slapped with sodomy and child molestation charges and has since appeared before a judge and been placed on a bond of US$50,000.
A release from the GDF today said that Lieutenant Martin Douglas who was pursuing a military course in Missouri, USA, was arraigned last Thursday before a judge on alleged sodomy and child molestation charges.
He has been placed on a bond of US$50,000 and is being held at the St Louis County Jail.
“The Government of Guyana, through its Embassy in Washington, DC, has already dispatched staff to visit the Officer in order to assess his case with a view to providing legal assistance,” the release said.
The Lieutenant’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 11.
