GRA officer’s gun seized after night club fight

An employee within the Guyana Revenue Authority’s Surveillance and Anti-Smuggling Section (SASS) had his firearm taken away by the police two weeks ago, after he reportedly threatened a civilian at a city night club late last month.

Reports are that the employee, who is a former police officer, was issued a revolver less than a month ago by the GRA, which according to a source was in contravention of the six-month probation period offered to new employees.

On the night of July 19, the GRA employee and another man were involved in a heated argument and the customs officer threatened to shoot the other man. Police from the Brickdam Police Station later intervened in the matter and the employee was arrested and charged.
