Two on bail over BlackBerry theft

A man, charged with stealing a BlackBerry Smartphone and another, charged with receiving the stolen item, were on Friday each placed on $35,000 bail by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Jarrel Emanuel, 24, of 3653 North Ruimveldt, was arraigned on a charge of larceny from the person. It was alleged that on August 6, at Georgetown, he stole the phone from Candacy Toney.

Meanwhile, Clive Pillew, 34, of 3035 North Ruimveldt, also gave a denial when he was charged with receiving stolen property. It was alleged that on August 7, at Georgetown, he received from the stolen BlackBerry from Emanuel, knowing same to be stolen.

His attorney Adrian Thompson requested that the court grant his client reasonable bail. Emanuel was not represented by counsel and he asked the court to grant him bail.

The prosecution had no objection to bail.

Both matters will be called again on October 24 in Court One.
