A mother of three, accused of narcotics possession when she reportedly had cannabis in the food she was taking to an inmate at the Brickdam lock-ups, was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum of $60,000 by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Tracey Hunte, 24, is that on August 11 at Brickdam, she had in her possession five grammes of cannabis.
The resident of 240 Sun Flower Street, South Ruimveldt Gardens denied the charge of possession of narcotics when it was read to her by the magistrate.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey told the court that the accused was taking meals to an inmate at the Brickdam lock-ups when a search was conducted and the alleged illegal item found concealed in the food.
The prosecution subsequently objected to the defendant being granted her pre-trial liberty, stating that such illegal items being smuggled into the lock-ups and prison is very prevalent.
The magistrate in her address to the court, however, said that to accede to the prosecution’s argument that the particular scenario presented to the court is a prevalent one would be speculative on her part since she was not personally aware of that. She, however, did not doubt
