(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – Suriname will receive a hospital as a gift from China. The hospital will be built in the Wanica district, and Beijing and Paramaribo must still work out the details. There is a possibility that during his visit next month to the third China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum in Trinidad and Tobago, President Desi Bouterse will discuss this matter further with the head of the Chinese delegation and might sign an agreement then. Chinese Ambassador Yuan Nansheng stated this during a press conference at the Chinese Embassy yesterday afternoon. The Ambassador and other Embassy officials informed the press about the upcoming summit between the Asian power and the Caribbean. When asked for comment, the Ambassador says that when diplomatic relations with Suriname were established in 1976, China promised a gift to the country. That promise will be kept now. He points out that shortly after his inauguration, President Bouterse mentioned some matters to the Chinese such as the construction of a hospital and Beijing is very positive about donating a hospital. Both countries will discuss whether a fully equipped hospital or just a building will be donated.
