Barbados monitoring Japan used car imports for radiation

(Barbados Nation) Health authorities are monitoring the importation of used vehicles that may have been contaminated by radiation after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan that seriously damaged a nuclear plant there.

According to well informed sources, a health team led by Chief Medical Officer Dr Joy St John, and including officials of the Ministry of Health’s Environmental Division, as well as specialists of international organizations like the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), on Friday visited and conducted tests on some of the vehicles at the Bridgetown Port.

However, according to reports, there were no signs of radioactivity on the imported vehicles.

When reached yesterday, St John told the SUNDAY SUN: “I have no comment on that.”
