Kwatata resident charged as horse thief

A 21-year old Kwatata resident who was yesterday accused of stealing a horse was placed on $30,000 bail after he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The  allegation is that on August 21 at the Meritizero Ranch in the Rupununi District, Jefferson  Durrick stole one grey stallion valued $30,000,  property of the Meritizero Ranch.

The man who resides at Kwatata Village, Central Rupununi, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him and asked the court to be granted bail.

Police Corporal Venetta Pindar  had no objection to the bail application but asked the court that the matter be transferred to the Lethem Magistrates’ Court for September 6.

The magistrate later accepted the application by the defendant and the man was placed on bail.
