D’Urban St man damaged cell phones, assaulted woman

A 23–year-old D’Urban Street man was yesterday placed on $50,000 bail at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after he was accused of  damage to property, threatening language, and assault at Potaro.

The allegation is that on August 26 at Potaro in the Essequibo District Garrvey Williams unlawfully damaged two Motorola cell phones valued $80,000. It is also alleged that on August 16 at Potaro the man also assaulted Amanda Solomon. It is further alleged that on August 27 the businessman made use of threatening language to the said Solomon, thereby  occasioning a  breach of the peace.

The man who told the court that he is the owner of a dredge pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to  him by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton.

Attorney James Bond who represented Williams told the court that the defendant and the VC managed the said business for almost 15  years and since then the accused was said to have been a good individual.

The prosecution had no objection to the man being granted bail. The court was informed that whenever the accused is in Georgetown his fixed  place of residence is Lot 61 D’Urban Street, Lodge.

The matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court for October 19.
