Man accused of assaulting woman granted $15,000 bail

A 37-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a woman causing her actual bodily harm was yesterday placed on $15,000 bail after he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Shawn Connaway is that on August 28 at Victor Street, Lodge, he unlawfully assaulted June Hopkinson, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

The man who told the court that he suffers from a hearing disorder was assisted by his mother to answer the questions which were asked by the magistrate.

The mother of the accused told the court that she does not know the lot number of her son’s residence since he lives in an apartment.

The woman further asked the court that her son be granted bail on the grounds that she will take him to live with her.

After careful consideration, the magistrate stated   that the matter will be called again on November 15 and the man was granted bail.
