(Trinidad Guardian) Acting on a tip-off, heavily-armed Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) officers went to the Gasparillo Police Station yesterday, seizing a cellphone and a quantity of cash from Selwyn “Robocop” Alexis. The contraband items were allegedly found in the cell at the station where Alexis was being held since his arrest at a luxury apartment at One Woodbrook Place, Port-of-Spain, on Tuesday night. According to a reliable source, around 9.30 am officers received a tip-off that the alleged gang leader was in possession of the items. Shortly before 10 am, a party of CSU officers, led by Homicide investigator, Sgt Anderson Pariman, went to the station where they searched the cell and allegedly found a Nokia cellphone and a quantity of TT and US currency. The items were confiscated.
Alexis’s attorney Joseph Honore was contacted and arrived at the station around 11 am. Charges, including gang-related offences, were expected to be laid against Alexis yesterday. He is expected to appear in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court today. The 45-year-old was arrested when members of the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) raided a multi-million dollar apartment at One Woodbrook Place, Woodbrook. A 36-year-old woman also was arrested. Alexis also was detained for questioning in connection with the murder of central resident Vincent Emmanuel Simmons. Simmons was shot and killed on October 7, 2008, in Enterprise, Chaguanas.
