Duo accused of King St knifepoint robbery

Two men who allegedly robbed another of $123,000 in items were placed on $80,000 bail each on Tuesday after they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Quacy Mc Ewian and Gavin Bess is that on September 2 at King Street, Georgetown, being armed with a knife, they robbed Kevin Rover of two cell phones valued $93,000 and $30,000 Guyana currency.

Both of the men pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.

According to the facts presented to the court by the prosecution  Rover and a friend were coming from a club when one of the defendants approached Rover and asked him for $100. The other defendant subsequently came up with a knife and relieved the VC of the articles mentioned in the charge. The accused were subsequently arrested and charged. The matter will be called again on October 24.
