Suriname unjustly sullied by alleged forestry swindle – official

(De Ware Tijd)  PARAMARIBO — According to Pearl Jules, head of the Forestry and Forest Supervision Foundation (SBB), internationally, the impression is unjustly created that Suriname has allowed that investors on the Canadian trade fair have been swindled for millions of US dollars by the Chinese/Canadian timber multinational Greenheart Resources Holdings (GRH), an affiliate of Sino Forest. He is unfamiliar with Greenheart Resources Holdings but suspects that the confusion is created by the name of ‘Greenheart Group Suriname’ (GGS) under which a big investor that operates in Suriname. Jules recognizes that it should be investigated whether there is still a link between GRH and GGS. If that is the case, GGS will face international sanctions while its local partners (Dynasty, Octagon and Tacoba) risk sanctions if they have knowingly collaborated in the abuse of data by GRH. Local competitors of GGS anonymously say they are convinced of a link between GGs and GRH.
