Suriname mum on WikiLeaks allegations against Bouterse, Roger Khan

(De Ware Tijd) PARAMARIBO – The government does not react on US drug allegations against NDP-leader Desi Bouterse in the recently leaked Wikileaks-cables of the US Embassy in Paramaribo. This is stated by Foreign Affairs (BUZA) Minister Winston Lackin. Especially the alleged drug connections between Bouterse and the Guyanese drug lord Roger Khan are reported to Washington. The US Embassy suggests in the cables that Bouterse had entered into a collaboration with the Guyanese to increase his income via drug trafficking. Because of the seriousness of the accusations, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ruth Wijdenbosch on the contrary expects that the Cabinet of the President will react and thinks it striking that in spite of the serious accusations, there are “good friendly relations” between Bouterse and the US.
