Woman robbed of cell phone in scissors holdup – court told

A 22-year-old man who allegedly used a scissors to rob a woman of her mobile phone was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

The allegation against Kevin Peters of Lot 278 Guyhoc Park is that on September 12 at Georgetown, while being armed with a pair of scissors, he robbed Daniels Harris of one cellular phone valued $100,000, property of the said virtual complainant(VC).

When the charge was read to the man at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court he pleaded not guilty to the offence.

According to the facts presented to the court by Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Lionel Harvey, on the day in question the VC who came out of a bus was approached by the accused along with two others who also exited the vehicle. Harvey stated that the accused then demanded that the VC surrender the cell phone and snatched it from him after he refused.

The accused was subsequently placed on $100,000 bail and told that the matter will be called again on October 24.
