Bandits pretending to be meter readers grab over US$10,000

Police are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at about 10.15 am yesterday at Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, during which three women were robbed at gunpoint of US$10,000 and $80,000 along with a quantity of jewellery.

According to a press release, Donna Atwell, 26; Pauline Peters, 49; and Roxanne Crawford, 22, were attacked and robbed by five men armed with handguns.

Investigations by the police revealed that men entered the premises under the guise of electrical meter readers and held the three at gunpoint.

The release continued that after tying up the three women with duct tape, the men ransacked the building, and then made good their escape with the money, jewellery, and a cellular phone. The men escaped in a motor vehicle, the release said.

Investigations are continuing into the matter.
