Youth denies ganja possession charge

An 18-year-old who was charged with possession of cannabis was yesterday placed on $5,000 bail after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation is that on September 16 at Queen Street, Georgetown, Josh Merideen of South Ruimveldt had in his possession two grammes of cannabis.

The young man pleaded not guilty to the offence when it was read to him.

No facts were presented to the court by the prosecution on what had transpired on the day in question.

Police Corporal Lionel Harvey had no objection to the accused being granted bail.

Merideen was placed on $5,000 bail and the matter will be called again on October 27.
