Accused in assault case granted $25,000 bail

- arrest warrant issued for absent VC

A man who allegedly assaulted another was yesterday placed on $25,000 bail after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on September 23 at Forshaw Street, Marlon King unlawfully assaulted Quacy Williams.

The accused who told the court that he works in the interior pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Meanwhile, the acting chief magistrate issued an arrest warrant for the VC who did not attend court for the proceedings.

No facts of what had transpired on the day in question were presented to the court by the prosecution. Police Corporal Lionel Harvey had no objection to the bail application.  The matter was transferred to Court Six for report and fixture.
