At about 16:00hrs yesterday, police said, the body of miner Jahave Brown, 23, of Helena, Mahaica, ECD, was found at Bonehead, Omai, with a wound to the chest.
Efforts are being made to have the body brought out to Georgetown for a post-mortem examination.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud this afternoon confirmed that Browne was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
He said he could not confirm that the man was a miner.
He said so far investigators are unaware of how he sustained the injury or what led to it being inflicted.
So far no one has been held, Persaud said. Investigations are in progress.
