A technician who allegedly stole a music set from a woman who had left it for repairs at his workshop was yesterday placed on $60,000 bail after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against John Watson is that between July 26 and August 6 he stole one stereo set valued $70,000, property of the virtual complainant (VC) Shavon Scott.
The 47-year-old man who resides at Lot 637 West Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
In presenting the facts, Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court that the VC, who was the owner of the stereo set, was experiencing technical difficulties with it and took it to the workshop to be fixed.
Harvey stated that the woman later went to uplift the stereo set from the workshop but she was informed by the technician that it had been stolen. He said that the VC promptly reported the matter to the police station and the accused was subsequently arrested and charged.
The prosecution had no objection to bail but asked that it be set at a substantial sum to ensure that the accused returns to court.
The matter was adjourned until October 18 for report and fixture and will be called at Court Five at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
