Six contracts approved for infrastructure in key sectors – Luncheon

Cabinet has offered no objection to six contracts the agriculture, security, housing and water and works sectors, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon said yesterday.

At a post-Cabinet media briefing, Luncheon said that in the agriculture sector, a contract for $21.03 million had been approved contracts for the mechanical excavation of drainage canals at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, a GINA press release said.

In the security sector, the approval of a $16.007 million contract will see the construction of a fire station at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. Under housing and water $972.3 million has been approved for the construction of roads, drains, structures and the installation of a pure water distribution network at Plantation Providence, Phase 2.

In the works sector a contract for $77.5 million under the Office of Prime Minister for the Hinterland Electrical Project will see the supply of electricity cables to complement the 11,000- 65 watt solar panels. In addition, another contract for $53.5 million has been green lighted for the supply of electrical tools for Amerindian communities in which solar panels would be distributed

.And under public works a contract for $22.2 million will see the supply of aids to the navigation – materials for the construction and re-construction of existing towers in the channel, GINA said.
