Norton St man denies wounding charge

A 28-year-old man who allegedly wounded another man was yesterday placed on $150,000 bail after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation is that on July 26 Norton Street resident Dwayne John unlawfully and maliciously wounded
Telson Curry. The man pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

In presenting the facts Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court that the defendant is known to the VC following a misunderstanding that resulted from a relationship the VC’s girlfriend had with the defendant.

He said that on the day in question the two parties had an argument in the Sophia area and as a result the defendant slapped the VC. Harvey said that a medical certificate was obtained and the accused was arrested and charged.

After stating the facts the prosecutor had no objection to bail but asked that the court grant it in a substantial sum.
John was placed on bail and the matter will be called again on October 19 at Court Five.
