Barber fined over domestic assault

–wife made to pay costs after begging for him

Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday fined a man $4,000 on an assault charge and ordered that his wife pay $4,000 court costs after she pleaded for him to be given “a chance.”

Dennis Dalrymple, a father of nine of North Ruimveldt Squatting Area, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with unlawfully assaulting and using threatening language to his wife Meena Dalrymple on October 4.

Dalrymple, a barber, pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court that on the day in question he tried calming his wife down and did not realise he had hurt her.

The Virtual Complainant (VC) then pleaded with Magistrate Lovell, “He neva hit me before your worship. I beg that you give him a chance.”

The accused was fined $4,000 and the magistrate told the VC that if she made a report to the police station, then came to court and changed her mind, it constitutes a waste of the court’s time. She subsequently ordered that the VC pay costs of $4,000 for wasting the court time.
