Teen brothers charged with theft of mats

Two brothers were yesterday remanded to the Juvenile Detention Centre after they were charged with the larceny of three mats.

The boys, ages 17 and 16, both pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that on October 3, in the vicinity of White Hole Backdam, Mahdia, the two stole a rifle mat, valued $18,000, a fur mat, valued $18,000, and another mat valued $21,000.

The prosecutor also alleged that on October 4, the older brother unlawfully wounded a man in the Potaro-Siparuni area, causing him actual bodily harm.
After the boys were remanded to the juvenile facility, the case was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court for October 19.
