Albouystown mother charged over ganja in bake

An Albouystown mother who allegedly tried to take cannabis into the Georgetown Prison was yesterday placed on $25,000 bail after she appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer the charge of possession of narcotics.

It is alleged that Sunita Singh tried to take 1.5 grammes of cannabis into the Georgetown Prison when she was taking food to her son.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Singh told the court that her son’s girlfriend normally prepares the food and she takes it to him in prison. On the day in question the defendant stated that she took the food and opened it and when she checked the bake it had the illicit drug concealed.

Singh was placed on bail and is expected to make her next court appearance on October 17.
