Driver threatened wife with cutlass – court hears

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted a driver $20,000 bail and ordered him to keep the peace when he appeared in court to answer to the charges of exhibiting threatening behaviour toward the mother of his children.

Ivor Ragnauth, of Lot 1 Kallicharran Sand Road, Soesdyke, pleaded not guilty when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The court heard that Ragnauth and the virtual complainant (VC) Evadyne Ram live together at the stated address. On Tuesday October 11, after enquiring about the children, Ragnauth allegedly picked up a cutlass and threatened Ram.

The VC became frightened and left the house. She then made a police report and subsequently removed the children from the home.

The court ordered Ragnauth to find a new place of abode. He said he would now reside at Parfait Harmonie. The court also told the accused that if he needed anything from the Soesdyke home he would need to travel there accompanied by police.

The couple was ordered to appear in the Providence Magistrates’ Court today for continuation of the matter.
