PPP/C complains to police about thugs

The Guyana Police Force says it has received a report from the PPP/C that activists and volunteers of that political party are being intimidated and harassed by bands of thugs “who seem to be aligned to other political parties.”

The Force said it wishes to “make it clear that acts of intimidation or harassment of activists or volunteers of any political party or members of civil society will not be tolerated. These acts, once reported and there is sufficient evidence of a criminal offence, will be dealt with condignly.”

The Force wishes to call on all political parties to be tolerant and behave in a civil manner towards their fellow Guyanese.

The PPP today also released a letter sent yesterday by campaign manager Robert Persaud to GECOM Chairman Dr Steve Surujbally complaining about the destruction of campaign assets and threats and intimidation. He said that the party is concerned that GECOM and other stakeholders are treating these threats lightly.

Also released by the PPP was a letter by MP Steve Ninvalle reporting to Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon how one of its buses had been stoned on Wednesday in North Ruimveldt and its volunteers threatened.
