Robbery with violence accused remanded

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded a clothes vendor accused of robbery with violence when he yesterday appeared before her in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It alleged that on October 17 at Georgetown, 21-year old Michael April of Lot 35 North Vigilance robbed Hubern Wellington of $290,000 and before, after or during the robbery he used personal violence on the virtual complainant (VC). The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable offence.

The prosecutor told the court that on the day in question the VC was purchasing a vest from a vendor on Regent Street when April accosted him from behind and robbed him of the said sum he had in his possession. April then allegedly ran into Charlotte Street where police on patrol in the area apprehended him. The prosecutor then asked the court to deny bail.

April was ordered to appear in Court 5 on November 11.
