Man bludgeoned at Mahdia was Mahaica resident

The man who on Sunday night succumbed at the Mahdia Hospital from head injuries he allegedly received at the hand of a drinking partner has been identified as Earl Austin of Mahaica.

According to reports, the man was 50 years old and resided at Lot 22 Belmont, Mahaica. On the night of the incident, Austin had allegedly been at a popular night spot consuming alcohol with others when a fight broke out. It was during this alleged fight that Austin was hit in the head with a piece of wood by one of the individuals.

Police, in a press release, stated that the unidentified man was taken to the hospital by three individuals – two of whom were later identified as the owner of the nightspot and the alleged assailant – who were later arrested.

Austin’s body is at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
