Overseas group assists ‘golden girls’ living in charity home

Residents of the Good Samaritan home in Berbice received 13 Care Packages compliments of New Amsterdamers International Inc (NAII) last Saturday.

During a simple ceremony punctuated with spiritual songs and prayers at the Stanleytown, Berbice location, the packages were handed over by project coordinator Sharon Correia, to matron of the home, Jacqueline Henry. The packages which include bed sheets, toiletries and foodstuff are for the residents of the home often called the ‘Golden Girls.’ The home caters to women.

Prior to making the presentation, Correia said the non-profit organization held a series of fund-raising activities including a fun day at Sea View Park, Brooklyn to garner funds to purchase the items. Henry expressed gratitude to the overseas-based group for their assistance.

NAII has assisted the home before. In June, the group’s members were involved in renovation works on the building in an effort to improve the inmates’ standard of living.

NAII is committed to rebuilding and revitalizing New Amsterdam through a series of projects funded by donations and executed in collaboration with New Amsterdam’s community leaders, according to the group.
