Vendor charged with assaulting GNBS worker gets $40,000 bail

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted a chicken vendor $40,000 bail when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to a charge of assault and displaying threatening behaviour.

The court heard that Kennard Lallman of 1000, 12 Street Diamond Housing Scheme unlawfully assaulted Andrew Koshus and at the same time displayed threatening behaviour toward him.

Koshus is a Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) employee who was conducting an exercise at La Penitence Market when he informed the defendant of the exercise and asked to check his scale. Lallman allegedly refused and dealt with the VC in an inappropriate manner. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The magistrate placed both parties on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.
