(Trinidad Express) The shooting death of a 36-year-old San Juan man, which occurred mere minutes before curfew restrictions took effect on Tuesday night, is engaging the attention of police.
This brings the murder toll to 294 for this year.
The victim has been identified by police as Clevon “Hannis” Sebastian of Upper Lloyd Street, Sunshine Avenue, San Juan.
Sebastian, a father of two, was shot multiple times outside his home by two masked men pretending they were police officers.
He slumped to the ground outside a door leading to his kitchen and died at the scene.
Police probing the incident, up to late yesterday, remained clueless as to a possible motive for the incident which occurred around 10.45 p.m.
A quantity of marijuana was found next to Sebastian’s body but police were unable to say whether it belonged to him or his killers. Officers said Sebastian’s cellphone and cash were stolen by his attackers.
Officers said the victim’s wife, Claudia Ashby, reported that she and her two young children were inside their home when several gunshots were heard coming from outside.
Ashby told police she heard Sebastian scream and as she peeped through a window she saw two masked and armed men inside her yard.
The woman ran and hid inside her home with her children and several more gunshots were heard. Thirty minutes later she made a check and saw Sebastian in a pool of blood outside.
Ashby notified the police and officers from the San Juan station, which included Sgt Rowley and Cpl De Jean, who were on mobile patrol, responded to the report.
Supt John Daniel and Insp Hollis Jacobs of the North Eastern Division led a team of officers to the scene who were at the time conducting several exercises within the division.
Woman Sgt Jermaline Mitchell and PC Herbie Francis of the Region II Homicide Bureau of Investigations are probing the incident.
