Conductress, bus driver accused of assaulting each other

A conductress, who is accused of assaulting the driver of a minibus she was travelling in, pleaded not guilty to the charge when she yesterday appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Ulanda Thomas, of Diamond New Scheme, is accused of unlawfully assaulting Marcel Beaton on September 21. Beaton was also charged with assaulting Thomas.

The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court heard that on the said day, Thomas and her children boarded the bus. When she tendered the fare, the man objected and she allegedly picked up a piece of wood and assaulted him.

The matter was transferred to Court 6 for Monday.
