Hand-in-Hand gives support to Fire Prevention Seminar

A one-day Fire Prevention Seminar is scheduled for  Friday, November 11 at the GNS Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue and Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company is the major sponsor once again.

The seminar is being jointly conducted by the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) in collaboration with the Fire Advisory Board (FAB) and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI)

and forms a major part of the public relations and education subcommittee programme of the FAB, a press release stated.

Meanwhile, DOCOL has  agreed to donate the fire extinguishers that will be used at the seminar.

The major aim of the seminar is to sensitize the business community and raise awareness of the importance of fire prevention and general fire safety issues.

It is usually planned to be held in November every year so that the business community can prepare and adequately plan for the busy Christmas season.

Among the proposed subject areas are Fire Prevention Issues, Fire Safety and the Business Community, the Role and Responsibility of the Business Community in Fire Prevention, the Chemistry of Combustion, Evacuation Procedures, Housekeeping, Storage Procedures and a practical demonstration on the operation of fire extinguishers.

Fire Manager of the Fire Insurance Company Howard Cox along with Business Development Manager Vivek Joshi presented the company’s  cheque to Chairman of the Fire Advisory Board, Rajendra Singh on Friday at the company’s Head Office, Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown.

The seminar closely follows the widespread activities conducted by the GFS for Fire Prevention Week earlier this month, the release added.
