Four parties to contest national elections

Four parties will contest the November 28 national elections after having their lists cleared by the Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom).

These parties, a source indicated, are the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), A Partnership For National Unity (APNU), Alliance For Change (AFC) and The United Force (TUF).

A fifth party, the East Berbice Development Association (EBDA) will contest Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne).

The Horizon and Star led by Hubert Maloney and the Anthony Snow-headed Fundamental Structure Group (FSG) failed to make the cut as they did not complete the necessary corrections to their lists. Horizon and Star, Gecom indicated, had been ruled out because it failed to submit a “correct logo” by the deadline.

FSG, failed to make corrections by the necessary deadline, thereby automatically making it ineligible.  The FSG submitted lists to contest the national top-up seats, and thirteen of the geographical constituency seats in six regions.
With only four political parties in the race, this would be the election with the fewest contesting parties in recent times.
