Man remanded over Woolford Avenue robbery

A man, who claimed two different home addresses, was on Monday remanded to prison by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, when he appeared before her to face the charge of robbery committed on Woolford Avenue.

It is alleged that on October 27, 20-year-old Deryck Raymond robbed Sheldon Noel of a gold chain and two cell phones, valued $118,000 in total. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution stated that on the day in question, Noel was on Woolford Avenue and had his phones in his hand when the defendant and two others came up and snatched the phones and his chain.

Noel then raised an alarm and the defendant was apprehended with the phones in his possession, while the other two made good their escape.

Raymond gave the police his address as Fifth Street, Alberttown and he then gave the court his address as 132 Buxton Friendship, East Coast Demerara, so the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant will not return to trial since he is uncertain of his address.

He was subsequently remanded.
