Breach on Mabura Road shuts down traffic

Ingress and egress to locations past 40 miles Mabura have been halted for another 48 hours following a breach in the road.

According to an advisory issued by the Ministry of Public Works and Communication the road will remain closed for at least 48 hours to effect repairs to the breach caused by erosion.

According a regular commuter on the road, he passed the area on Sunday and the road was in good condition. He however said that one of his trucks came out yesterday and the driver told him of the development. He explained that because there was heavy rain in the forest the creeks along the road overtopped  causing the road to burst.

“What happen is that the culverts along the road cannot take off the heavy flow of water that comes down when it rains in the forest”, the source said. He explained that as a result sections of the area near the culvert which is of loam and laterite washed away leaving a large canal across the road.

Persons heading to Mabura, Mahdia, Lethem and other communities and mining locations along the way have been locked in as a result of the impassable section of the road.
