Cecil Romeo who was in police custody for the past four years after he was accused of having carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl was yesterday freed after he was found not guilty by 10 persons of a 12-member jury.
It is alleged that Romeo, 36, during the month of August, 2007, in the county of Essequibo, committed the act.
The jury deliberated for over two hours before returning to the courtroom of Justice Winston Patterson with the decision.
Romeo was unrepresented throughout his trial while State prosecutors were Teshanna James and Diana Kaulesar.
