SKN Leewards Times today reported that a Guyanese man has been jailed for seven years with hard labour for larceny.
It said that the trial which commenced on Tuesday saw 23 years-old Ronnel Carmichael being charged on two counts. The prosecution headed by the Director of Public Prosecution, Pauline Hendrickson alleged on the first count that Carmichael and another between the 25th and 26th of July 2010 at Charlestown stole a quantity of items belonging to Sheon Lewis the owner of Little Sheek Fashion Store.
According to the report, items listed to have been stolen were (20) Pepe long jeans valued at $4400.00, (15) Pepe short jeans valued $2970.00, (26) Request jeans valued $5268.00, (12) Silver jeans valued $2640.00, (18) Aeropostale t-shirts valued $2340.00, (16) American Eagle t-shirts valued $2320.00, (10) Assorted Brand shirt valued $950.00, (20) Pepe jeans t-shirts valued $2200.00, (9) Request t-shirts jeans valued $855.00, (8) Aeropostale Polo t-shirt- $1200.00, (5) South pole t-shirts valued $475.00, (17) button down dress shirts valued $2805.00, (60) shades valued $3000.00, (14) hats valued $1,300 and (15) silver sterling fashion rings- $525.00. All to a total value of $33, 288.00.
On the second count, the report said that the prosecution also alleged that the duo received the said items between the 25th and 26th of July 2010. Both Carmichael and his co-accused pleaded not guilty to the two charges. His co-accused was freed.
Justice Albert Redhead reminded Carmichael that he has been convicted three times for similar offences by the Magistrate and was sentenced to 3 years each on the three occasions. “You can’t keep out of trouble and you are asking me to give you another chance. Why you don’t live people’s things alone?” the judge asked. The judge subsequently sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment with hard labour.
