At about 1415h. today, the police responded to a report of break and enter on the home of Sales Manager of Trans Pacific Auto Sales, Dinesh Singh at Block ‘Y’, Golden Grove, EBD.
Upon arrival at the scene, the two ranks saw three men exiting the premises, the police said in a statement. One of the ranks held on to one of the men, while the other two ran in different directions.
The police said that the other rank gave chase behind one of the perpetrators during which he was attacked with an iron claw-bar, forcing him to resort to the use of force and the man was shot to his right hip.
Police say the injured suspect has been identified as Sean Brewster, 27 years of West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown, and has been admitted a patient under guard at the GPHC. His condition is stable.
The other suspect who was held is in police custody, while the third perpetrator managed to flee, police said.
It was subsequently reported that the perpetrators broke into a safe and carried away $400,000 and a quantity of jewellery, according to the police.
Investigations are in progress.
