Labourer had ganja in his groin – court hears

A 22-year-old labourer who allegedly had 16 grammes of cannabis in his groin for the purpose of trafficking was on Monday remanded to prison after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation is that on November 18 at Camp and D’Urban streets, Georgetown, Tony Anderson, who resides at Hunter Street, Albouystown had 16 grammes of cannabis in his possession.
He pleaded not guilty.

In presenting the facts, Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court that on the day in question ranks from the narcotics division acting on information went to the area and conducted a search on the defendant. A black plastic bag taped with transparent scotch tape was recovered from his groin. The bag was opened in the defendant’s presence and leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, cigarette packs and a cellular phone were found in the bag.

The man was cautioned and taken to the police station and the narcotics weighed in his presence.

The prosecution, after stating the facts, objected to bail on the ground that no special circumstance was presented to the court.

The matter was transferred to Court Two for reports and fixtures but the accused was further remanded to prison until the matter is called again on December 19.
