Pires wanted over Berbice cocaine find

Dexter Pires, 29, the Tucville, Georgetown man for whom police issued a wanted bulletin in connection with narcotics trafficking, is being linked to a recent bust in Berbice in which 10 kilogrammes of cocaine was found hidden in a car.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud made this disclosure yesterday.

Police had said that at about 10:30 am last Monday, police officers stopped a car PMM, bearing licence plate number 9535, at Moleson Creek. The driver of the vehicle, who was the only occupant, managed to drive away but police pursued the vehicle, which crashed at Line Path. The driver subsequently escaped. The release said that the car was taken to the Springlands Police Station, where a search revealed the hidden cocaine.

Last Thursday, New Amsterdam residents Tito Sancho, 28, proprietor of the Candy Shop and Winston Wade, 29, who owns the Desire Clothing boutique, appeared in the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on charges related to the find. They were both remanded to prison.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Michael Grant informed the magistrate that the defendants along with the suspect who fled in the car were at the Moleson Creek Ferry Stelling standing around the car. Two women who had been held along with Sancho and Wade were released without charge.
Pires, was last known to be living at Lot R13-571 Conciliation Street, Tucville, police said on Monday.
